The lotus tower will rise up like a radiant sculpture from the heart of the Colombo city on the waterfront of the picturesque Beira Lake as the tallest tower in South Asia and the 19th tallest tower in in the world. Its striking design inspired by the lotus flower, which has strong symbolic ties to the Sri Lankan culture, will help bridge the gap between the built fabric of the city and the country’s rich cultural heritage.
The design of this iconic landmark conceptualized by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka will be led by CSEC in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture at University of Moratuwa. China National Electronics Import & Export Corp/Aerospace Long – March International Trade Co. Ltd will be entrusted with the construction of this colossal structure.
The estimated construction cost of $104.3 million is funded by EXIM Bank of Peoples’ Republic of China The 350m tall monumental tower spanning over 30,600 square meters of floor area will house a 600 seat revolving restaurant, an observation deck, a 1000-pax banquet hall, two floors of hotel accommodation, a food court, a telecom museum, office space, exhibition space and parking for over 200 vehicles. The surrounding landscape will be characterized by a large water park.
The tower base inspired by the lotus throne will be formed by two inverted trapezoidal and it will comprise of four floors. The tower house, shaped like a lotus, will be composed of eight floors. The tower’s color is planned to alternate between pink and light yellow by smooth transition- an effect achieved by coating the glass. Upon HIGH RISE 11 completion the Lotus Tower will stand as a symbolic landmark of the wonder of Asia.
